Big Company or small for hosting needs? I am looking for a good hosting company and was offered a decent price from a small home based company.I am just a little worried about dependablitiy and whether or not a smaller company will offer what I need. Has anyone chosen a smaller "mom and pop" type hosting service over a well known one?
I think you may get better "service" in terms of help and response for peoples from a "mom and pop" type of operation.Though the big company can probably better deal with the bandwidth providers and may have much higher burstable capacity. One of the questions if you find the XYZ hosting company, are you realing with the hosting company or a reseller?
You have to ask yourself if you want service or cheap prices. Just weigh your options before you stick with something. And, you can always change your host if something goes wrong. I know it can be a burden, but it happens.
In my humble opinion, I feel that the Mom & Pop (to use that phrase) is probably a company that is trying to grow and that you should get better service from them than a larger company.Anyone who is just starting up in business goes that extra mile to make sure you are happy so that you will spread the word amongst your cohorts or friends when they require a "good" webhosting company. I would say take a chance on someone that is small but before you do ask for references. If they can give you references and you get good feedback from the references then I would say it is well worth the chance and the substantial savings that you will get. Also, it means that if they are growing you are on the ground floor and any future dealings you may need to have with them will take precedence over someone who is using them for the first time.
