How do text ads work? I am building a site. If I were to have text ads on my site, how do I profit? How does it work? How much do I profit per click? Does it make my site look bad to have them. It seems like a money making scheme to me. Does it make my site look less reputable?
To my knowledge there are two types of textads:1. Targeted ads such as google adsense 2. Text ads that are sold to the highest bidders #1 is very frequently used on top sites and is a great way to go. Google (or whomever you use) serves up the ads based on some proprietary algorithm that determines the most suitable ads based on your page's content. You get paid anywhere from a few cents to a few dollars (if you're very lucky) per click. #2 requires work on your part and if you have a good pagerank can help the advertised site raise their own pagerank. Unless you abuse them, they do nothing negative to your site.
The google adsense ones are the safest way to go. The pay to the highest bigger ads really won't get you much more money in my opinion.
I usually use google adsense. I don't have a problem with them and for the most part they are usually targeted. Google does have a rule about clicking your own links. If they find out someone has done it they will shut down your account.
I like google adsense as well. They haven't made me a ton of money but I'm patient. I know eventually it will happen with my hard work that goes along with it.
Where do the google adsense links pick up there subject from? I've seen sites where the adsense link seems to have no connection with the page content, and then I've noticed that it is picking up it's cue from something in the site name at the top of the page, which could be really secondary to the main content! Does this mean that text highest up the page gets targeted first by google when generating the adsense content?
