Tools to avoid spam I'd love to hear somme recommendations for tools and utilities that can be used to prevent or at least filter out spam. I know GMAIL has good tools, but I'm talking about on the client side as in Outlook itself.Have you used any that you're happy with?
Gmail is a spam magnet. Everybody knows it is connected to the cellphone and everybody is trying to connect to that market. I have a busines cellphone and since I signed up for gmail I got a tons of nasty text messges from nowhere.
Gmail is not a spam magnet, but you're talking about cell phones and text messages and since I don't do any of that stuff maybe there is something I don't know.
Wow, I have only heard really good things about gmail. I have absolutely no spam in my gmail account. My Yahoo account is aweful as well as my hotmail account. I wish there was a way to get rid of spam all together, but I guess that won't ever happen. Is there a way to block spam. I get spam from the same places over and over. I get sometime 20 per day from the same comapany/email address.
When I first started gmail I got absolutely no spam, and if you are getting spam from the same email address, just block it. It's easy to create filters with gmail.
I have used Spambayes in the past with Outlook and it was pretty darn good for a free tool. It is open source and uses a smart "learning algorithm" to identify spam. Very effective if you're getting a lot of spam.
I have Outlook and I go to the online site of my ISP and in their they have the greatest of spam tools. You can block names, domains, words, anything you can think of that you don't want coming through to you inbox. It is well worth going in this direction because then you are not even tempted to go look and see what might be in the spam. If something does get through you just go in the "backdoor" without opening the e-mail, get the sender information put in on the website as a blocked e-mail and it never get through again.
I'm with you on this one... I too would like to hear more about spam eliminators or protectors as well. The spammers are getting smarter and finding unique ways to get the job done. I HATE SPAMMERS and would love to strangle them all. So if we can find the ultimate spam deterent I would be greatly appreciative.
I don't think there is a way to eliminate Spam altogether. I even get it on my blackberry and sometimes I can not tell the difference between a spam mail and real mail I need since it is on that tiny screen. My boss has told me to try to open as little spam mail as possible because it can cause viruses, but it is almost unavoidable.
I usually just delete it. If you have AOL mail, you can sort by sender. I love this function. If you have mail from someone you've never heard of, odds are it's spam. So you just delete all mail by unknown users.
