SEO with a shopping cart site We are using a shopping cart site where the pages for each item are generated directly from the DB, and the page names are consequently completely useless as far as search engines go. Is there any way around this?
You know I've read differing opinions on this. If there are only 1 or 2 parameters in the URL then it's not the end of the world. It's not as good as having a standard URL, but you can still get indexed fine. Unless you can change to 'friendly URLs' I wouldn't worry about it too much.
The problem with a lot of the URLs generated by carts is that they are replete with session ID's and meaningless characters, and very little meaningful text. Don't know if the search engines can make much out of those.
