Preventing competitors from clicking away

Thank author of this post/commentWhat protection does a small website using paid ads on google have against a determined competitor clicking away on his ads? If I have a daily limit on the amount I'm prepared to pay to google to feature my ad, and a competitor regularly googles my site and clicks away on my ad (I'm assuming that he can arrange to do this from a variety of machines at different IP addresses)what protection do I have against this? With a number of clicks he can cause me to reach my limit for the day, so that my ad is no longer displaying, and I've had to pay google for all the clicks!

Thank author of this post/commentHow much are you paying per click? Are you really making a good return on your investment?

Thank author of this post/commentGood question. It's bothered me a lot and at one point I was actually suspicious of a competitor that was bidding on the same word. I contacted Google and they investigated and assured me that there was no obvious pattern. They do have IPs and full stats so I trust them.

Billy, I pay anywhere from 15c to $1 per lead. I tweak the keywords and try to get the best bang for the buck. Seems to work pretty well.

Thank author of this post/commentInteresting about google being able to trace IPs which would obviously be a big deterrent to anyone trying to do commit fraud on a regular basis. Question is do they do random checks or only on request? Seems a big job to monitor everything out there on a regular basis.

Thank author of this post/commentYeah, how do they know of all the people committing click fraud? I know they can trace the IP's but that seems to be a big undertaking to do on a regular basis.

Thank author of this post/commentOf course the computer logging into the adsense account is the one that they will always check, but then no-one in his right mind would regularly click on his own google ads. What bothers me is whether they will penalize one if one does this on the odd occasion by mistake as when checking one's pages and clicking on the wrong link. With links often looking so similar it can and does happen. I wonder how much leeway they allow?

Thank author of this post/commentHmm, i never thinked on that issue... Perhaps setting your proper keywords, and daily analys on that will aid you.

Unfortunately, you don't really have control on the positions where your ad will be shown, at least if you don't check the opened channels for placing ads...
