Leveraging excellent traffic on a large forum site

Thank author of this post/commentI am running a large forum site for a client. Approximately 1 million page views per month.

What are the best ways to generate revenue? I know that a lot of people sell private links and the pagerank of the site is high so that is certainly an option, but I'd like to know some good places to sell links and some good suggestions for CPM and CPC options that really do work.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thank author of this post/commentOnce you've built up a good userbase you should be able to see patterns in their usage and interests. This will help you pick the right affiliate programs and CPM/CPC programs. The hard part is getting the traffic and building the community. Once you've tackled that you're on to the easier side of things.

Thank author of this post/commentUsers n volume do not mean high affiliate volume. This is a fallacy that makes webmasters drink the Kool-aid and then wonder where their "money" is.

Thank author of this post/commentTargeted Users, Plus Targeted Ads = lots of money with volume.

You really need all 3 in unison. If you have a million visitors a month and your ad revenue isn't there you need to do something different. If you have no ad revenue you need to do something!

I'd start with 3 affiliate or PPC revenue sources you think match your audience. After a week rotate out the worst performing one with a new one. If none have made any significant revenue (after a quarter million views) you need to rotate them all out.
