Do they really work?

Thank author of this post/commentDo you think PPC ads really work? Whenever I see them on a website I don't click them. I just assume since it is advertisement it will take me to a page where it's going to try to sell me something that I don't want or need. There have to be others that think the same way. So, who really clicks the ads?

Thank author of this post/commentI sometimes put just images of other products and link to that site, if it goes with my site and I want that image instead of a cheesy flashing banner. You get some revenue, not the tons people claim.

Thank author of this post/commentWell that's a smart idea, I might be more apt to click a picture of something I was interested in than I would be to click an advertising banner or hyperlink ad. But, I'm assuming it would still lead me to a page that would try to sell me something. Am I right?

Anywhere You Want
Thank author of this post/commentIn a simple answer, in most cases, YES!!!. The whole purpose of people allowing links of their web pages to be used by others on their home page is to get people to the website where they want to either sell you something, or interest you in joining something i.e. CD Clubs, Book Clubs, other "types" of clubs depending on your interests.

Or they want you to link to their "Store" where you can buy things if you choose. The only worry I have about these is that you do not know where it is taking you and what type of "cookie" is going to be placed on your compter and what type of spam you will end up receiving.

Personally, I don't go anywhere I'm not sure of in order to prevent any of the above happening.

Thank author of this post/commentEven more good reasons not to click the links. Aside from the sales pitch, there is that possibility of setting yourself up for spam. I'm sure a lot of people think that way, that's why I question whether PPC ads really work.

Thank author of this post/commentI used to think that nobody clicked ads, but I get a few clicks a day on my site, and sometimes I see ads on my site I want to click but I can't.

Thank author of this post/commentI think the ads wouldn't be there if they didn't work. They bug me. I hate using search sites that are full of ads. It makes me feel like the information I am looking for comes second and that is far from the truth.

Thank author of this post/commentIt's sort of a catch 22. You want to provide a great service to others but you need to make money to support the cause and to compensate for your time so you add ads to the site. The best you can do is to try and make them blend in with the overall L&F of the site and that they do not overwhelm the visitors. If you succeed in doing that then they often serve as useful sources of related information. I have no problem with ads on a site and when I see interesting ones I try to visit them to help out both parties. I don't just click on any old ad, but when I see relevant ones that are of interest I do visit them.

Thank author of this post/commentI suppose spam becomes a problem as do popups. It seems like everytime I click anything now I get at least 1-2 pop ups for advertising. I guess everyone wants money these days. I thought you only got popups when clicking on adult sites, but now that is the truth no longer.

Thank author of this post/commentI absolutely hate pop ups. I think they are the most intrusive and annoying type of advertisement in existance. I would never resort to using those no matter how much my website needed money.

Thank author of this post/commentEveryone hates popups, but they're inevitable. If you click an ad, you have a very good chance of getting a popup. I think that has turned a lot of people away from clicking ads. Another reason I wonder if they're effective anymore. I just wonder if PPC is dying because of the bad things associated with it.
