Internet Marketing or Monkey Business? Today I was reviewing real estate classified ads submissions and ran across a great example of the one of the dangers of using outsourced or freelance services for web promotion:- Lack of attention to detail - Poor presentation The classified ad site was for the country of Chile. Someone using an IP address in India posted an advertisement for "Serviced Apartments in New York". Now, unless something has changed drastically, New York is part of the USA and not South America. The classifieds site was for property for sale. This was a listing for rentals. The classifieds site was specifically for specific properties and not general agency listings. The ad posted was just for the agent, not a specific property (besides being a rental and not for sale). Additionally, the ad poster entered a city name of "London" for the ad. The lack of attention here is enormous: - New York ad posted in website about Chile. - Rental ad posted in website about Property for Sale. - General listing posted in website for specific properties. - Poster misidentified New York as "London" Now, if I had not deleted the listing, block the account of the poster and blocked the url of the website being promoted across a large network of sites, that ad, and others likely to be posted by the same person would have left any readers of the ad with a very poor impression of that website. I mean, seriously, would anyone really be interested in renting a serviced apartment in New York from someone who doesn't seem to know (or care) about the difference between New York, London and Chile? I think the key to successful internet marketing is TARGETING! How do you make sure your freelancers, outsourcers and employees are promoting your website or services in a positive, intelligent manner? |
