Resolution and browser size

Thank author of this post/commentI want a way of testing whether my html page width design will fit into windows of different resolutions without the user needing to scroll from left to right. Is there any free software out there that will do this? What is the most commonly used resolution in use today? I'd say it is probably 1024 whereas it was 800 a few years back.

Thank author of this post/commentYes there actually is a fantastic piece of software called AGWindowWatch. Not too many people know about it, but it's a gem. I don't have a link off hand, but if you do a search on Google for agwindowwatch then it should come up with some download links. The last version I have is 1.4.7

Anyway, this program will let you view your current browser resized to resemble the chosen resolution. You can simply flip between different resolutions. Highly recommended.

Thank author of this post/commentI don't think resolution is that important anymore. People are using such large monitors now they don't really care about the old school resolutions. I mean come on, are people really still viewing things at 800x600 LOL.

Thank author of this post/commentYou may be right, Jess, but one needs to test when developing and that will always be important. I downloaded AGWindowWatch at Delino's suggestion and must say it is an amazing little application. Sitting in the tray and allowing one to switch window sizes at a click to see exactly how ones page is going to display at any resolution. Thanks for the tip.

Thank author of this post/commentAt this point in time forget 640x480... but 800x600 is commonly used.

Also consider PDA's of sorts

You can just resize the winow if you want a smaller view but bigger is more difficult. I have the same problem. Do anyone no if it's possible to center the background?

Thank author of this post/commentThe window resizer plugin for firefox is great. With one or two clicks you can set your window size to 640x480, 800x600, 1024x768 or any custom sizes you configure.

An absolute necessity if you are developing websites so you can see how they look on the standard screen sizes.
