| Search engine fight OK I need some help.Whenever I type in a web address into my address bar, one of two things happens: either a yahoo search page or a google search page comes up with the site i typed in the top result. Something has made my computer instead of navigating to the pages simply search the web for results. I uninstalled the Google toolbar and never wanted a yahoo toolbar, now it seems for some reason both Google and yahoo are fighting over every web nvigation to get their names up on my screen. Can anyone stop the madness? |
| I have something like that. In the Firefox I have on this comp, when I just type a word into the address bar, it does a Google search and takes me to the first page on the results (I don't see this happening but I know it does), but on Firefox 2, it automatically searches on Google. Kind of wierd. |
#2Somewhere Over The Rainbow | That would be very annoying to me. Would reinstalling IE help at all? If that were happening to me, I'd probably reformat the computer if that's what it took to stop it. |
| Do you possibly have the older version of IE. You may need to install the newer version which is 7.0 I think. I have never had a problem like that. I hope you figure it out. |
#4Downtown Tijuana, South | I had that happening to me for the longest time it would always go to Star Search... I haven't got a clue where this Star Search Engine even came from.I did a spyware search, a disc clean and a defrag and that stopped it. For a while what I would do is shut down the I.E. and open it again and it seemed the second time it opened I wouldn't have that problem. Try either of those or install the 7.0 IE and maybe that will help it. My problem went away and I never did find out where it started from. |
| Go to advanced options and UNCHECK the box about "searching from the address bar". (I don't know the wording since I am not using IE).Then it will only go to web pages and not try and search when you mistype a url. |
| This kind of reminds me of that site, I can't remember what it's called. It might have just been straight up called searchenginefight.com, but I don't think that was it... |
#7Somewhere Over The Rainbow | Just curious if you ever found out what the problem was, why the url window was searching instead of directing? Were you able to get that fixed? |
