Is it still a good money making engine?

Back in 2007, I was attracted by friends to try out blogging as it served as a perfect venue to earn additional money. Providing quality online content mattered that time as companies like Google, Amazon and other third party advertising agencies helped bloggers earn a little by providing content related ads in the past. Fast forward to today, everyone has the ability to own a blog and it also means the demand or the money offered to make money has also been reduced. Is the money making days of new bloggers over, or is it just a start of some challenging new world.
