Computer Dying Okay I have a bit of a problem with my second computer. It seems that the hard drive is beginning to die. I would like to set this drive up as a slave driver and buy a new hard drive to install. In this way I can transfer information from the original (now the slave) to the new one.How difficult is it to set the original up as the slave and is it worth the effort to do so? Or would it be better to just take it to the "experts" and let them handle it.
I don't know what a slave drive is, but I can figure it out and I know what you want to do. Unless you feel confident with yourself, I'd let an expert do it, since you don't want to lose all that data.
I am not sure what a slave is either. If it is mostly data and files fill up a couple of jump drives and then transfer. If you don't feel comfortable doing it yourself I would take to a tech guy.
Pretty easy to do. You just swap the drive out and attach the main cables to the new one. You may have to tweak some basic settings in the BIOS at your boot up and of course you'll have to alter the pins at the back of the drive based on the instructions that come with them. Very doable if you just follow the basic instructions. Go for it.Good luck.
