Better internet DSL or Cable?General - General
Better internet DSL or Cable? I just thought I would take a vote. I have had both DSL and Cable. We started out with cable and switched to DSL because it eliminated one person I had to pay and the cost was 1/2 the price of Cable. I pay roughly 19.00 per month for DSL and for the most part the service is excellent.
I prefer dsl over cable. In my opinion dsl is faster and a little more realiable. I ended up bundling a few services on my land line so I managed to save some money and get my modem free.
The problem with most DSL services is they limit the upload speed too much. See if you can get fixed wireless, you might get equal up/download speeds and you will really see a difference with that.
For sure I will take DSL over cable anyday. For one thing the cable company I have servicing my area sucks big time and I wouldn't want to hand anymore of my business over to them than I have to.I don't have a problem with upload/download speeds but then I'm not in a hurry to get things done. In most cases unless you have a large server your speeds don't really increase or decrease by that much no matter what. Whereever I worked they also used DSL and not cable and working in law there were deadlines that had to be met and we had to get into the government servers for filing documents, etc. and they were instantaneous. I think the best is DSL and wouldn't change from it no matter what the cable bundling costs turn out to be and in this case they are still more than the DSL through the telephone line with their bundle package.
Why you need faster upload speeds. For example, on Verizon DSL where you have 1.5 meg down and 128k upload, you'll be pushing the limit of the system to use your VOIP phone and surf the web. Web pages that have many small graphics (like so many do) will load significantly lower on a 1.5meg/128k connection than say a 1.5meg/500k connection.
There are different speeds of DSL. I didn't even know that except I had to call my internet provider for a service call. My DSL has been great, except for some reason really windy days it can be faulty. They said that should not happen, but it does.
We love our cable, but we have our cable bill, internet bill, and phone bill combined for 99.00 per month. I can't really tell any difference in speeds. DSL and cable are both so fast that it is hard for me to see a difference.
There are different speeds for DSL. I have one of the faster ones and it works fine. I have used it for over 6 months and have never had a crash or loss connection.
