Do you own your own name?

Thank author of this post/commentDo you own your own name? I do.

I mean the domain name of your name.

I know there a few other people with my name and I wanted to get it. The thing is, so many of the things I do with a site makes me want to be anonymous. So of all people and of all the sites, My own looks the worst!

Thank author of this post/commentI wanted mine but someone got there ahead of me. Rub it in why don't you! The thing is, you do want to be able to function online without necessarily providing your facts and figures to strangers. I work under an alias sometimes and I am sure I am not the only one.

Thank author of this post/commentI don't really think I would want to own my domain. I think that is giving away information and in todays times of identity theft you have to do anything you can to protect yourself.

Thank author of this post/commentJust because people know your name doesn't mean they can do anything. If somebody really wants to get you, they'll do a whois.

Thank author of this post/commentThat's why you can have a masked feature on your controversial or unusual names. I often use a different name when I am buying a name for a client because I don't want someone to come up to me or tell a friend or family member "Hey they own something something awful or weird.com. "

Thank author of this post/commentMy name is not common at all. I don't own it, but I'm willing to bet nobody else does either. I think if you have a common name, and you first name doesn't have an unusual spelling, then you might have a harder time getting your domain name.

Thank author of this post/commentI really wouldn't want my own name as a domain name for the simple reason that my name has nothing to do with what I want on the domain.

I feel that you need a "key" word in the domain name so that when people google to find a certain Item, Name, Product, that they will also be directed to your domain.

Jkander you may want to wake up. These days with a name address and phone number people can do a lot.

Thank author of this post/commentSadly people's identities are pretty easy to uncover these days. It doesn't take too much effort.

I think that owning your own domain is cool just in case you ever hit it really big :)
