can someone explain blog to me?

Thank author of this post/commentAt the risk of sounding really stupid, what exactly is a blog? I've heard the term but I don't really know what it is. How is it different than a regular website? I've never really known anyone I could ask about this, so I figured now is my chance to toss that question out there.

Thank author of this post/commentA blog is more a direct communication from a single person, like a letter or a note. It has more freedom of expression (ideally) than a corproate summary or sales pitch.

Strategically people can load text into the blog with hyperlinks back to their site, which may score higher in thre SEO. Blogs usually a single topic, like gossip or a TV show.

Thank author of this post/commentSo it's just basically a personal webpage where you give your opinion on a given subject? Does it always have to be one single subject or can you have a blog where you just give your opinion on a variety of things and issues?

Thank author of this post/commentIt can be a variety. But people generally want to attract users looking for the same topic of bunches of information.

Also there is a section for after every article for users to make comments.

Thank author of this post/commentA "blog" is more of a style of website than a reference to content. And of course there are many styles of blogs!

Thank author of this post/commentBasically, a blog is like your own personal diary. You can have a blog with your day to day thoughts and ideas or you can run a blog (as some people do) that is specific to an activity you enjoy such as playing poker, going to theatre, going skiing, etc.

Then when people are looking for information on a specific topic they will have access to your blog. It is really a story of how you feel about something, how you did something, how you wish things were.

As I said it's more of a personal diary but a lot of people catalogue their main activity for others to read.

Thank author of this post/commentMost people use a blog to comment on what is going on in their lives. More or less like a journal done on the computer. Some people allow others to comment or post on their blogs. There are blogs for wide range of topics on different sites. I did a blog when I was pregnant.

Thank author of this post/commentIt is officially defined as a weblog, and, as was said, is like an online diary. Things are changing now, though, people are starting to use them for money.

Thank author of this post/commentIt seems that has moved from being more of a personal thing to a money making source. I know a lot of people who had google adsense on their blog, click bank, and other affliate sites.

Using the term "blog" is confusing, makes no sense and is therefore completely unnecessary. We have the internet. Everything we write on it is therefore a message, a letter. In other words, it's like simply writing information you want passed on to someone. You're writing a letter, an article, except it's on the internet. It doesn't need any title. Leave it at that.

Thank author of this post/commentWe have the world and everything in it and it all exists... so we shouldn't bother having names for anything because everything is all part of the world?!?!?!

I think you guys are all wrong. Blog is nothing more than a contraction of what used to be called a Web Log.

In other words, everyone is entitled to my opinion, and a blog is the means to that end?

I want to understand this term and record my experiences, reactions and thoughts for use of others who may like to.I live in Pakistan and experiences of our cultre and society are somewhat amazing and change shape and colour day by day.I want to keep a record of them.I think this method, blog, can help me to save my record.

"Could you please explain what a blog is?"

Could you please explain what a blog is and if it can be used to promote a business?

It is the world of thoughts, expressed sincerely, open heartedly $ say the facts from the depth of the heart... , such an art of expressing thoughts in terms of words and sentences is simply blogging.

Just getting on board.

Thanks for the interesting comments.

Computer iliterate as I am, I appreciate the comments re. "definition" of BLOG.

Seems as though the term "blog" defies description. But I am much more informed!

Thanks again.

Thank author of this post/comment"blog = diary"

many blogs nowerdays are personnel diaries of people which I don't think is a very good thing. The internet and especially web 2.0 isn't as private as many users think.. so posting personnel information can be quite dangerous..
